The Week in Windsor: Dec. 9-16

Today is the next-to-last Farmers Market of the year. Chef Mei Ibach will be giving demonstrations and The Mighty Chiplings will entertain. Vendors will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Town Green.

It’s school concert season, with performances by local students scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 11, through Sunday, Dec. 16:

*Fourth and fifth-graders perform a Winter Chorus Concertis  Tuesday at Brooks Elementary School, 750 Natalie Drive, 837-7717.

*Windsor Middle School’s Strings and Chorus concert is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the school’s multi-purpose room, 9500 Brooks Road South, 837-7737.

*The Windsor High School and Cali Chorus “Not So Silent Night” concert is at 7 p.m. Friday in the WHS Theater, 8695 Windsor Road, 837-7767.

*And at 11 a.m. Dec. 16, the Windsor Middle School chorus performs carols at the Windsor Farmers Market in the Town Green. 838-1320, windsorfarmersmarket.com.

Windsor Senior Center’s Holiday Supper is 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, with vegetarian lasagna and music by the Trio Raggazi at 9231 Foxwood Dr. Fee: $10. Reservations required at 838-1250.

“Once Upon a Gingerbread House” day Saturday at the library. Ages 4-10 will have the opportunity to make a gingerbread creation. The group Friends of the Library is underwriting the activity which begins at 11 a.m. The library is located at 9291 Old Redwood Highway and for more information, call 838-1020.

Also Saturday, the Windsor Toy Drive, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, comes to an end. Gifts will be given out that day by the Windsor Service Alliance at Huerta Gym (9291 Old Redwood Highway) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There’s still time to donate a new, unwrapped toy (price range $15 to $30). Among the places around town collecting are Cafe Noto (630 McClelland Dr.), Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (8400 Old Redwood Highway), Wal-Mart (6650 Hembree Lane) and Chamber of Commerce (9001 Windsor Road). One more special event at 6 p.m. Saturday is the Vietnamese Christmas celebration at the Mary Agatha Furth Center (8400 Old Redwood Highway). As in years past, Father Chinh Nguyen will lead the ceremony, which includes holiday carols and a banquet. The number to the Furth Center is 837-7620.

The Windsor Art Council’s Second Saturday Art Walk is 5-8 p.m. Saturday, showcasing the work of guest artist Robbie Geiss and entertaining visitors with live music and refreshments. Start at 507 David Clayton Lane. “Favorites,” the council’s members’ show will also be on display through December there noon-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Monday through Thursday, the Windsor Youth Wrestling Club will meet in the multi-purpose room at Windsor High School. This ongoing program is for fourth-to-eighth grade students on Mondays and Wednesdays while first-through-third graders take to the mats on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practice starts at 7 p.m. every night. The cost is $95 for the season. Athletes need to show their birth certificate before participating. The club is dedicated to teaching the sport of wrestling.
