Make plans for the free community dinner
The Windsor Care Network is hosting a free community dinner from noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Vineyard of Faith Lutheran Church, 167 Arata Lane.
All Windsor residents are invited to enjoy roast turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, vegetables, salad, rolls and dessert. Hot and cold beverages will also be provided.
“This dinner is being provided at no cost to those attending, however donations are accepted,” said Gary Quackenbush, executive director of the Windsor Care Network. Many of the ingredients are being provided by the Redwood Empire Food Bank and the Windsor Service Alliance.
More than 100 volunteers from Windsor churches, medical and dental practices, town offices and other groups will serve and prepare the meal.
“Our goal is to provide an inviting place during the holidays where residents can come to enjoy the fellowship and experience the warmth of this family-friendly community,” Quackenbush said. ”Many people are lonely this time of year and others may be on fixed incomes, unemployed or living at the poverty level. Everyone is welcome to join us.”
The Windsor Care Network has been providing free holiday meals since 2010, serving more than 1,000 residents each year.
“With all costs considered, we are able to provide these meals for about $1 per person,” Quackenbush said, “the lowest cost of any similar dinner. The Windsor Care Network does not have a paid staff and, therefore, no overhead. All of our staffing needs are filled by volunteers.”
In 2013, Windsor Care Network plans to expand its reach by hosting dinners and brunches at other times of the year as well as during the holidays.
Carry out meals are available after 3 p.m. on Saturday, and meals can be delivered after 4 p.m. to those who cannot attend in person or are without transportation. For information or to order carryout meals, call 322-1882. En espanol, llame al 217-7049 para ordenar las comidas para lleva.
