The Windsor School District will offer a new teen parent program in 2011-12 after officials opted to move California School Age Families Education funding into the district’s general fund.
The Teen Parent Support Program approved Tuesday night is expected to serve between 13-17 teen parents who might otherwise drop out of school because of a pregnancy. Funding for the program would be based on revenue generated from attendance, according to the district.
The new, reduced program is expected to offer placement of five to eight babies in outside care facilities, to allow teens to return to high school; home schooling for four to five students whose infants are at home; and on-site child care at Windsor High School for four infants or toddlers. The program will also include assessments for both students and the child care operation.
